THE ISSUE

Enlighten were approached by a large insurance company which had not undertaken leadership development for several years and recognised there were gaps in their performance, particularly their ability to work across teams and communication both upwards and with peers. These gaps were becoming more detrimental to bottom line performance as the organisation was in the process of a merger with a larger corporate.

THE GOALS

Build the leadership capabilities of existing branch directors

Improve cross – team working.

Create a culture where teams and individuals could take a purposeful approach to their own development. Fortify time management and personal efficiency of the Branch directors
Enhance resilience within the team with a focus on change management.

THE METHOD

Working closely with the HR Director and critical friends at the Branch Director level we conducted a skills gap analysis and designed a 6-module blended programme to be delivered to each identified individual over a 12-month period, with each module building on the previous one and threading company values throughout the process.

Prior to undertaking the first module we conducted an in-depth skills analysis with each participant particularly focusing on the areas of their own performance and their areas of perceived weakness, this ensured the content could be personally tailored and relevant to each participant. Each module, while describing modern leadership models and concepts was highly experiential and impactful.

THE BENEFITS

There was over 95% satisfaction with the programme delivery days but most importantly the participants when coached identified that their own performance and resilience had improved, and the learning had “stuck”. This is a rare achievement in training.

Senior managers also noticed and evidenced this uptick in performance

A difficult merger with a larger corporate body went more smoothly with engaged and resilient staff contributing to the continued profitability of both companies.

CKP/Police Pre-join certificate for a major police force.

Enlighten has been the largest supplier of the police pre-join Certificate in Knowledge of Policing since 2013 and delivered it to thousands of individuals who have signed up to complete it, either to assist in the entry requirements of their police applications, or to gain a level 3 qualification.

While the curriculum is provided by the College of Policing all content design and lesson planning was undertaken ourselves into a coherent 10 module course that has been delivered via fully classroom based methods, online, and blended which was a significant amount of design and development.

THE ISSUE

We were approached by a large police service that wanted their new recruits to undertake the qualification as employees and therefore needed to retool the material to be suitable for delivery in this way, which also added the extra issue that failure of the assessments would lead to termination of employment.

THE GOALS

The client wanted the programme to run over 7 weeks over several years, utilising multiple classrooms and trainers so we were able to upscale our resources rapidly utilising our in-house trainers who had an extensive background in police probationer training.

THE METHOD

We delivered a blended programme encompassing a range of learning methods to suit all styles, as well as using varied assessment methods from multiple choice, short answer, long written answers and professional discussion.

THE BENEFITS

  • Standardised training across all new recruits, giving clients the confidence all shared the same level of knowledge and understanding in critical policing legislative knowledge.
  • Students on the programme received in-depth support, coaching and learning far above that which could have been achieved on a solely distance or part time programme.
  • The pass rate was nearly 100% allowing the client to maintain its recruitment targets and for students to progress with their careers.
  • The outsourcing of this element of training also relieved pressure on the internal training department during a time of challenging targets and was also more cost effective in a time of austerity.
